Joe was born and raised in Mt. Carmel, IL. He graduated from David Lipscomb College in 1977 with a major in mathematics and a minor in physics and in 1992 received a master’s degree in education. While at Lipscomb, he met Rosemary Johnson and they married in 1978. For the next ten years, they lived in Illinois with Joe teaching during this time as well as preaching for the Grayville Church of Christ. Their four children were born during this timeframe. In August of 1988, the family moved to Columbia and he began teaching at Central High School. In January of 1989, Joe began preaching for the Southpoint Church of Christ. Also this year he started teaching the Wednesday night adult class at Eastside and continues to this day. He worked with the Southpoint congregation for nearly 15 years. In September of 2003, he began working with the Eastside/South Gate congregation as an associate minister. After 38 years, he retired from public school teaching but continues to this day teaching God’s word. Some hobbies as well as seven grandchildren help to occupy his time.
